First up for this month, we now have editable working collisions in Bounty Bros! This video also presents our second “bounty bro” and main character James!

But this isn't the only thing that's been getting done this month! While I can't give you a video on technical engine infrastructure improvements, I can tell you I've been working on simplifying a portion of the Bones game engine that should be implemented by the end of next month. In order to prove out this new structure I'm going to update the Striker Ball code with the changes to Bones. As a result, Striker Ball should then let you play multiple LAN matches before bringing you back to the menu! A small game improvement, but in the background, big engine improvements. While engine changes aren't always as exciting, they always have deeper value for the development of every game in Bones.

Along with this I've been working on a generic controller mapper for Bones games. What this will do is allow any game to have a default user interface where users can assign their controller buttons or keyboard keys to the actions in the game. It is a preset UI that takes almost no effort on the developers part to implement into their game, and will always be there in case they haven't designed their own user interface for it yet. It will take heavy inspiration from Celeste’s controller config, and will also include the ability to map inputs for specific controllers in case you have an odd variety of remotes. Here’s an early version of it in action!

We’re itching to get out of feature development and into map building and level design, but for now we're happy with the improvements to the engine and the editor. As usual, stay tuned we're still moving forward!
